Plusieurs manifestations

Israel, Nazi propaganda chief Göebbels would have been proud of you

By William Bowles

June 4, 2010 4 June, 2010 — Creative-i

"According to IHH official Omer Yagmur, who spoke to the doctors, 19-year-old Furkan Dogan was killed by four bullets to the head — all fired at close range — and one bullet into his chest, also fired at close range.

/../

"The Mavi Marmara was bombed right in front of our eyes. They threw the wounded into the water" — Yücel Köse, 'Israel killed more than 9, threw wounded into sea, witnesses say’, Zaman Today (Turkey), 4 July 2010

As the true nature of the massacre on the Mavi Marmara becomes apparent now that witnesses can speak out, so too is the scale of the pre-planned propaganda blitz conducted by the Israelis, a blitz that was launched in tandem with the armed attack.

Clearly planned well in advance of the attack (right down to paintball guns)—and with the able assistance of the Western media—Israel has shown how reality can be manipulated; day turned into night, wrong into right, black into white.

Just how well the Western media covers for the actions of the rogue state of Israel can be seen by comparing the BBC report, also from Turkey, with the Zaman Today article quoted from above.

Titled 'Gaza activists receive enthusiastic welcome in Turkey’ the BBC article mentions none of the atrocities allegedly committed by Israeli commandos. Instead, we get one quote from British activist Sarah Colbourne who told the BBC:

"I couldn’t even count the amount of ships that were in the water. It was literally bristling with ships, helicopters and gunfire. It was horrific, absolutely horrific." (see the Guardian piece below for a comparison)

The BBC piece opens with the following:

"Turkish planes carrying hundreds of activists from the Gaza-bound aid flotilla intercepted by Israeli forces have arrived in Istanbul from Israel.

"The activists returned to an enthusiastic welcome led by Turkey’s Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc.

"The bodies of nine people killed when Israeli commandos took control of the six aid vessels were also flown in.

"Earlier, PM Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel had "no choice" but to storm the ships on Monday."

"Took control"? Even Netanyahu describes it as storming the ships but good ol’ Auntie Beeb has to downplay the atrocity even as the two descriptions sit side-by-side!

And once again the BBC article reveals what it’s concerns really are, protecting the interests of the Empire. In a sidebar we read:

"By holding them until now, Israel has only prolonged this public relations disaster." — 'AT THE SCENE’, By Jonathan Head, BBC News, Istanbul

As always, as far as the BBC is concerned the atrocity is no more than a PR problem and not only for the Israelis, as revealing the true nature of the attack also reveals the BBC’s craven use of Israeli propaganda.

"The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth becomes the greatest enemy of the State." – Dr. Joseph M. Goebbels, Nazi minister of propaganda

Quoting Netanyahu under the sub-head of 'Vicious mob’

"In Israel, Prime Minister Netanyahu dismissed criticism of the raid as "international hypocrisy".

"He said the soldiers had been met by a "vicious mob" and had acted to defend themselves.

"He said it was Israel’s duty to prevent rockets and other weapons being smuggled into Gaza to Hamas by Iran and others.

"The flotilla, he argued, was not aiming to deliver humanitarian aid to Gazans but was trying to break the blockade.

""This was not a love boat, this was a boat of hate," Mr Netanyahu said." 'Gaza activists receive enthusiastic welcome in Turkey’

The parallels with Nazi propaganda techniques are no accident as are the connections between Nazi Germany and the then nascent state of Israel. Connections that are well documented. Indeed, the unit that carried out the attacks on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, Shayetet 13 owes its existence to Italian Fascists, in particular Fiorenzo Capriotti who was hired to form and train Shayetet 13.

"The fledgling Israeli state later turned to Italy to ask for help with military training, which the government was not willing to supply officially. The Italian government therefore got in touch with veterans of Mussolini’s short-lived Italian Social Republic (RSI): young men who had the technical skills required, but did not belong in the new political system.

"The veterans – including people like Capriotti who would have joined the RSI if they could have – had no qualms about helping the Zionists, with whom they shared a deep hostility towards the British.

/../

"In 1992, Fiorenzo Capriotti was appointed "honorary commander" of Shayetet 13 by Ami Ayalon, then commander of the Israeli navy, with a special mention of the "glorious" Decima Mas. Capriotti died last year, at the age of 99, a revered figure among Italian neo-Fascists, who would go in pilgrimage to visit him."[1]

There you have it. The BBC is complicit in spreading blatant lies about the tragic events of 31 May, 2010. In the words of Norman Finkelstein,

Israel is now a lunatic state. It’s a lunatic state with between 2 and 300 nuclear devices. It is threatening war daily against Iran, and against Hezbollah in Lebanon. Hezbollah in Lebanon has all ready stated on several occasions that if Israel attacks it will retaliate in kind. Things are getting out of control. We have to ask ourselves a simple basic fundamental question. Can a lunatic state like Israel be trusted with 2 to 300 nuclear devices, when it is now threatening its neighbors Iran and Lebanon with an attack? These are serious issues!" — 'Israel is now a lunatic state’

The degree to which the BBC censors news and insists on pushing the Israeli line can be seen not only from the Zaman Today piece quoted from at the beginning, which contradicts BBC 'coverage’ on almost every account but also in yesterday’s Guardian (3/6/10) we have the testimony of the first English participant in the Freedom Flotilla to return home, Sarah Colborne.

"There was live ammunition flying around and I could hear the sounds of the bullets flying and the whirr of the helicopter blades as people were dropped down onto the roof. What I saw was guns being used by the Israelis on unarmed civilians. I saw a bullet wound in someone’s head. It was very clear it was live ammunition."'British survivor of Gaza flotilla raid: 'Israelis ignored SOS calls’, The Guardian, 3 June, 2010[2]

Surely the BBC is complicit in Israeli war crimes and should stand in the dock alongside those responsible for the Gaza Freedom Flotilla massacre?

Gaza flotilla attack: Autopsies reveal
intensity of Israeli military force

Gaza flotilla Mavi Marmara The autopsy results reveal the extent of force used by Israeli commandos aboard the Mavi Marmara (pictured). Photograph: Reuters

The autopsy results released today by the Turkish authorities after the Israeli attack on the Gaza flotilla reveal in chilling detail the intensity of the military force unleashed on the multinational convoy.

Each of the nine victims on the Mavi Marmara in international waters off the coast of Israel in the early hours of Monday morning was shot at least once and some five or six times with 9mm rounds.

The results also reveal how close the fighting was. Dr Haluk Ince, chair of Turkey's council of forensic medicine (ATK), said: "Approximately 20cm away was the closest. In only one case was there only one entrance wound. The other eight have multiple entrance wounds. [The man killed by a single shot] was shot just in the middle of the forehead with a distant shot."

The details emerged as Turkey warned that it may reconsider its diplomatic ties with Israel unless it receives an apology.

The deputy prime minister, Bulent Arinc, warned: "We may plan to reduce our relations with Israel to a minimum."

Namid Tan, the ambassador to Washington, warned that Israel was "about to lose [a] friend". He repeated calls for an independent investigation of the raid and end its blockade against Gaza.

Asked if Turkey might break off relations, he said: "We don't want this to go to that point." But he added: "The government might be forced to take such an action."

Speaking at the funeral of the youngest activist, prime minister Tayyip Erdogan accused Israel of betraying its religion. "You killed 19-year-old Furkan Dogan brutally. Which faith, which holy book can be an excuse for killing him?" he asked.

According to the scientists at the ATK, Dogan, who held US and Turkish citizenship was shot five times – from close range in the right side of his nose, in the back of the head, in the back and twice in the left leg.

The oldest victim was 60-year-old Ibrahim Bilgen, a Turkish politician, engineer and activist who was married with six children. He had been shot once in the right temple, once in the right side of his chest, once in the back and once in the hip.

Cetin Topcuotlu, a 54-year old former Taekwondo champion who worked as a coach for the Turkish national team, was shot three times – once in the back of his head, once in his hip and once in his belly. His wife, Cigden, who was with him on the Mavi Marmara said at his funeral on Thursday she would take part in further flotillas to Gaza with her son.

The detail of the wounds came as yet more survivors returned to the UK and gave their account of the attacks.

In a hastily arranged press conference in central Londonshortly after his Turkish airlines plane touched down at Heathrow, Ismail Patel, the 47-year-old chairman of the Friends of al-Aqsa, condemned what he called "the cold-blooded murder and killing of our colleagues". He said: "These deaths were avoidable and I lay the blame squarely with the Israelis."

Israel has previously said its troops had been left with no choice after they came under attack from activists armed with knives and iron bars when they were dropped by helicopter on to the ship.

Patel claimed that as soon as the Israeli Defence Force helicopter appeared above the Mavi Marmara, "it started using immediately live ammunition" without any warning being issued.

After the first victim fell the white flag was raised, he said, but Israeli forces continued firing. "I think the Israeli soldiers were shooting to kill because most of the people who died were shot in the top part of their bodies," he said. He believed that later victims were injured in their legs after a "tactical move" by the commandos to wound rather then kill.

Alex Harrison, a Free Gaza activist who was on the smaller Challenger yacht, which was crewed mainly by women, said the Israelis used rubber bullets, sound bombs and tasers against them.

"Two women were hooded, they had their eyes taped," she said, describing how the yacht was quickly overwhelmed. "We stood and tried to obstruct the armed, masked men and maintained no other defence and still they used violence."

Harrison, 32, from Islington, north London, also witnessed the Mavi Marmara being stormed from above by helicopter and said the Israelis started firing before their troops touched down on the boat.

"I have seen some selective footage that the Israelis have chosen to put out suggesting that we responded with violence," she said. "You must remember that these are unarmed civilians on their own boat in the middle of the Mediterranean. People picked up what they could to defend themselves against armed, masked commandos who were shooting."

The violence was "initiated by the Israelis on a massive scale," she said, adding she was pleased her colleagues on the Rachel Corrie, an Irish vessel, were continuing to Gaza this weekend.

"I am thrilled they are going," she said. "They know exactly what risks they face. They are doing what our government's haven't and I thank them."

Both Harrison and Patel criticised the British authorities for failing to provide sufficient consular assistance while the activists were detained in an Israeli prison in Beersheva.

Patel said he was not visited by anyone from the British mission and Harrison said the consul told her that Israeli officials had prevented him visiting captured Britons.

"I did see the British consul," Harrison said. "He told me that he had sitting outside the prison all day ... asking for access and not been given it. I see that as an insult from Israel to the British, that they were denying the British consul the right that citizens have. I also see it as a sign that the British don't have the strength to stand up to Israel."

Foreign Secretary William Hague confirmed that a total of 34 of the activists on the aid flotilla were British, with all but two of them having been sent to Turkey by the Israeli authorities.

In Gaza City, the de facto Hamas prime minister, Ismail Haniyeh, told crowds of worshippers at Friday prayers that Israel's blockade was in its final stages.

"Now not only Gazans speak of the blockade, but also the [UN] security council and the international community. Everyone is demanding the siege be lifted."

Be part of the international opposition to the blockade of Gaza. Make your voice heard! The International Action Center urges you to sign a petition demanding justice in the wake of Israel's latest brutality -- the massacre of 9 or more unarmed activists by the Israeli army in international waters north of Gaza. Your message will go to President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Vice President Joe Biden, Congressional leaders, U.N. Secretary General Ban, members of the U.N. Security Council, U.N. member states, and the President, Prime Minister, and Cabinet of Israel along with Major media representatives and the International Red Cross.

The killed and wounded activists were part of a 750-member delegation on a six-boat flotilla attempting to bring humanitarian aid to the besieged people of Gaza.

Representing 40 different countries and led by the Free Gaza Movement and Insani Yardim Vakfi, a Turkish organization, the flotilla carried some 10,000 tons of humanitarian aid, including medical and construction supplies. A recent World Health Organization report states that the health of Gaza's population continues to deteriorate as a result of a three-year Israeli blockade -- a form of collective punishment unleashed by Israel after Hamas took electoral power in the area.

Some 70 miles off the Israeli coast, Israeli naval vessels surrounded the convoy on May 31. In an act of piracy, masked Israeli commandoes slid down ropes from helicopters onto the largest of the ships. Journalists aboard the ship reported that the troops started firing before they even touched down. Passengers aboard the ship were waving white flags at the time of the invasion.

According to reports, the Israeli navy seized all six ships and have imprisoned or deported all the other participants.

Protests broke out around the world in condemnation of the massacre. In cities across the U.S., the IAC organized and participated in protests denouncing the U.S. for providing military and other material support to client-state Israel. The Obama administration has pledged at least $30 billion in military aid to Israel over the next 10 years.

While many Middle Eastern and European governments denounced the attack, the U.S. response was tepid. According to the New York Times, the White House released a statement expressing "regrets about the loss of life." (May 31)

These continued attacks on the Palestinian people and their allies will only increase the call for boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel. Indeed, the massacre has sparked a world-wide uprising of resistance to the blockade, and many more, larger aid flotillas are being organized to challenge this Israeli state-terrorist piracy. This most recent atrocity exposes not only the ruthlessness of the settler Israeli state -- and the U.S. as its sponsor -- but also shows the steadfastness and determination of people around the world to free Palestine. We must keep up the pressure to demand a free Palestine!

Do your part!

Dear President Obama,

...I urge you to not meet with the Israeli PM on June 1st in response to Israel's illegal attack on the humanitarian maritime aid convoy to Gaza. The Israeli commando units, employing thin excuses, attacked the ships in intenational waters, killing over 10, injuring dozens of international civilians, and endangering hundreds others, including American citizens.

I further urge you to call for the immediate lifting of the siege on Gaza. There will never be peace before the people in Gaza live in dignity.

Thank you,

VENERDI’ 4 GIUGNO
GIORNATA DI MOBILITAZIONE NAZIONALE

A FIANCO DELLA FREEDOM FLOTILLA
SCENDIAMO IN PIAZZA CONTRO I CRIMINI ISRAELIANI

Amicalement,
CAPJPO-EuroPalestine

Attacco Militare Israeliano alla Freedom Flotilla

- come i pirati somali -
